Kaspersky Anti-virus Update Cuts Net Access for XP Users

24th February 2013

A recent update to the popular Kaspersky anti-virus software has left thousands of Microsoft XP users with a blocked internet connection.

The update also blocked internal company networks and caused the Russian owned IT security company, Kaspersky Labs, to issue general advice to either disable the software or roll back the update.

A fix for the problem was released within a couple of hours of the bug coming to light, but there were issues with users not being able to download it and the fix was, in some cases, complicated to install. The company issued an official apology for any inconvenience caused by the update.

This type of issue can be fairly common place with automatically installed updates and is often the reason why businesses rely on external support and specialists from VPW North Devon computer services for network security and software updates. As AVG Gold Resellers, we've plenty of experience in helping small businesses with IT Support issues like this.
