Domain Names are the most basic part of your Internet Services and experience, but one of the most important. A domain name is essentially your "Internet Postal Address" and forms the basis for your Web Site Address, E-Mail Address and other services.
A domain name is typically in the format "something.extension" - extensions are typically either generic, such as .com, .net or .org, or related to a country specific, such as .co.uk or .gr
Why Buy a Domain name?
Most businesses start with a single domain name, normally the company name, or a variation of it. As our business is "VPW Systems (UK) Ltd" we bought "vpwsys.net" as our main domain name, and that's the one we use for our e-mail too.
You may also want to buy variations of your name, including common typographical errors, and consider buying domain names to represent your key product or service names - for example, if you were called "Cool Ice Creams Ltd" and you had "Super Ices" as a brand name, you might buy "cool-ice.co.uk" for your company domain, and "super-ices.co.uk" to represent your brand name, both of which could point to different places (web sites) of required.
So how much does a Domain Name cost?
Domain Names are not costly, and a .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk domain name on it's own is just £9.37 + VAT for a 2 year ownership period - less than £5 a year to have your own domain name. For other domain names, the prices vary, but for common options such as .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz the cost is £20.42 + VAT per 2 Years.
