SMTP is the technical name for the ability to send e-mail. Most connectivity (Broadband) providers typically offer a sending mail server which you can use when you're using the service they provide. But what happens when you're away from your home or office and using a Wireless Hotspot or someone elses connection? In many cases you won't be able to send e-mail.
In addition, some providers, such as BT Total Broadband, BT Connect etc specifically bar e-mail from domain names being sent (so while yourusername@btconnect.com will send, you@yourcompany.co.uk won't).
The solution to this is our Authenticated SMTP Service. By subscribing to this service, we give you an account on our servers, which uses a username/password combination (hence the name authenicated). By changing your e-mail client to use this, you'll always be able to send your e-mail through us, regardless of who you use for your connectivity. It works on almost 100% of normal Internet connections, Cyber Cafes and Wireless Hotspots.
This service can also be used where you're having reliability problems with your current ISPs e-mail - because basic e-mail is typically free or bundled with many providers, it doesn't get the investment it needs and is consequently unreliable in nature. For those times we also offer a Group or Company send account, suitable for larger volumes of e-mail.
We can either provide:
- Authenticated SMTP - you have a username/password and configure your e-mail client (Outlook, Mac Mail etc) to use it, or tell your mail server to use our smart host.
- IP Controlled SMTP - for customers with Fixed IP addresses who want to use the service from a fixed location, by registering your IP Address(es) we can allow you to configure and send via us bypassing your ISP.

Our Usage allowances ("Sending Allowances") are not fixed limits (e.g. we won't disconnect or refuse to send mail if you go over those limits occasionally), but if you are persistently using more than the expected allowance we will contact you to discuss your options.
If you've already got our Mail Packages, you can upgrade your Package at any time to include this functionality, you'll need to choose a package, contact us to arrange the upgrade or discuss the best option for you.
