VPower Servers - Technical Details

For those who want to know more technical detail about our VPower services, this page will provide in-depth technical data. If you'd prefer a non-technical overview click here, or view the Service Plans.

What is the maximum specification of a VPower Server?

For 32-bit Servers (standard offering), the maximum memory allowed is 3Gb, this is due to limitations of 32-bit computing, rather than our VPower platform. The maximum storage space we currently allow is 500Gb on a standard installation. However, custom specifications up to 2Tb (2000Gb) are available. Beyond this, Dedicated or Custom solutions we offer are better suited. Processing power is provided via Virtual Intel or AMD processors, capable of providing up to 3Ghz Hyperthreaded specification (processing power is quite difficult to calculate in a meaningful way, but is generally better than a mid-range server) of otherwise equivalent specification.

What Applications can be chosen?

It is possible to run the same applications on the VPS as on a Windows server based in your office, providing sufficient memory and disk storage has been allocated to your VPower server. For most purposes a typical VPower system offers performance of an "off the shelf" mid-range server system.

When deciding on the specification of your VPower server, you should choose a specification as if it were a real server - the "Virtual" part is irrelevant to the configuration.

We have VPower Windows servers running tools such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, Sharepoint, Macromedia/Adobe Coldfusion, and other bespoke applications as well as simple File, Mail and Web Servers. For Linux servers, we have systems running Web Servers, application-in-a-box configurations and more.

What software packages can I add from you?

We can provide many Microsoft products on a rental basis, as we are registered Microsoft Service Providers. Many of our Standard VPower Server configurations include SQL Server, Exchange Server and Sharepoint. Other products are available on request. For non-Microsoft products, you would need to contact us, as many are not available on any reasonable "rental basis" from the vendor. Alternatively you can supply your own licenses and self-install.

What management options are there?

The management options include options on:

Please contact us to discuss specific requirements.

Can I have more than one VPower linked together in a private network?

Yes, we support having multiple VPower Servers from us, either on a same-site or different-site basis, and will allocate dedicated private subnet's to customers upon request to allow you to route traffic internally.

What about Static IP Addressing?

Each VPower Server is allocated 1 IP Address by default. For more complex requirements, we can provide additional IP Addresses, subject to normal RIPE allocation rules as well as our own "purpose checks".

Can I run non-Windows Servers?

Yes, we do allow non-Windows servers, and have customers running several flavours of Linux/FreeBSD for various purposes.

Can you supply "Test" Servers or Replica Systems too?

Yes, if you require test servers, staging servers, or from time to time replicas of your VPower Servers for the purposes of development/testing changes, please contact us. We can also offer VPower Servers which come without an SLA for hobby and testing purposes. Please contact us to discuss requirements.

What security is offered?

By default your Standard Configuration Windows Server will only come with access to Remote Desktop enabled. All other services will be blocked. You can make Firewall requests to add additional ports (subject to the limit of rules on your service plan). You can request any reasonable rule in line with your plan. Charges do sometimes apply.

Can you provide a VPN Link to my VPower Server?

As an additional option, VPN access can be made available in some cases - compatible hardware must exist , supplemental charges will apply for this facility.
