Backup Services - Remote Backup for Small Business
Common queries answered for our Small Business backup services that work on your Desktop, Laptop or Server system, including how to make changes and check the service is working.

I'm setup to receive notifications, but I'm missing one why?

Alerts for your Backups are generated when:

(a) You've opted in to receive them, or have had them enabled as part of a managed installation of our service.

(b) A Backup Job is successfully completed.

(c) A Backup Job is failed once it has started

(d) When we do a daily sweep of missed jobs

If you've not received an alert, it could be as simple as the alert not being received as your computer, software or Anti-Spam service incorrectly identified the message as junk.

It can also happen if there was a system issue of some kind. Our systems provide the alerts as a low priority, so if our systems have issues or maintenance they may be skipped.

You may also find that you've not received a Successful alert because a job was missed. Success and Fail alerts are generated within a few minutes of a job completing in normal conditions, whereas Missed jobs are processed once per day.

This is because jobs have a "retry" window - so if you've set it to start at say 22:00, it may have a retry window set of 10 hours - therefore we would not consider it missed until 08:00 the following day. With that in mind, our systems thus generate missed alerts once per day - normally in the late morning.
