Windows 10 - End of Life Options
The answer is actually more complex than you might think.
The first consideration is if your computer hardware is good enough, as Windows 11 introduces some technical changes to the requirements that mean a lot of hardware - even reasonably modern - may not be good enough. Without meeting those requirements you cannot have Windows 11 at all.
There are potentially other options to extend the life of your existing hardware using Windows 10 discussed elsewhere in our FAQs
Assuming your hardware meets the basic requirements, then the next thing to consider is does it have sufficient memory and the right storage type to work well. Microsoft famously provides very low basic specifications, but in practice this means the bare minimum - it doesn't account for running applications - even standard ones like Word or Outlook, Web Browsers like Chrome etc. There is a minimum specification we would recommend anyone tries Windows 11 on even if you meet the other requirements.
We will provide per-computer guidance on this where we can to you, if we provided your computer(s). If we did not, the help we can give will be more limited.
If both the mandatory requirements are met and the minimum recommended specs we would suggest are good, then you could potentially use Windows 11.
We strongly recommend you let us take care of the upgrade as there are quite a few possible issues - be aware that some software, or other hardware connected to your computer, may not work with Windows 11, or may need updates (which might include paid for upgrades). We can't control this.
If you are an Agility Desktop customer, you will need us to deploy new software once you are running Windows 11 so that you can access your Agility Desktop shortcuts due to changes made in Windows 11. If we're performing this update, that's part of the process. If not, the work will be chargeable under your support plan.
If you choose to make your own arrangements to move to Windows 11 on existing computers, we will charge for any/all support in relation to issues you experience after migration.
If you wish to upgrade, or replace, your computers please talk to our Sales Team for help with this and remember, when you acquire your computers through us, we take care of a lot of things to ensure consistency, security and migration are smooth for a fixed cost. Setting up hardware you've acquired yourself, or troubleshooting issues with it, is charged separately by us at a higher rate. This is because it takes us longer when we cannot use the tools we've developed for system configuration, and from experience we often encounter issues we simply don't get with hardware we've vetted and tested.
Remember too, before moving to Windows 11 that other software you use, your computer hardware, and any other equipment you connect to your computer or network may also need to be updated or replaced to work with Windows 11 so we strongly recommend you talk to us and have us take care of the migration.
